More weirdness.

I’ve been having rampant weird dreams. Dreams full of adventure (I was a female Rambo in a certain tertiary institution that was having Resident Evil symptoms) and like a messy jigsaw puzzle (I was enrolled into a foreign university, King’s Uni, which had many Nan Hua people in it. All still wearing the dratted white uniform). And random people in my life appear in them…

And yesterday, I fell asleep on the bus to jamming. It was supposed to be a 15-20 minute ride; I woke up at 20 minutes, only to find the bus back at the office area. I freaked out a little, alighted immediately, and took a cab even though I had an hour to spare.

The bus does loops, but this time the loop was a bit too… Quick?

Strange.

To see a castle wall of ice melt
Into a stranger oft than not
From veils that remain invisibly felt

Or an arm nimbly twisted
By a warm hand of welcome
Though without a fence, unvisited

Stretching through objects
Conceives a smile with gut maybe
Even a gutted smile rejected

Events that carve, cave and crave
In haste no eyes will meet
The air, cordial and somewhat brave

From whatever right that’s left
To anything even odd
Normalcy ensues theft.

Mupdates #4

  • Yay for the past 2 weeks — the exercise plan is going somewhere! I feel (quite) accomplished. Played some effective tennis with the Glory Tennis Club last Wednesday. It’s always great to not-play for a while because I’ll forget my bad habits/strokes. And I’m doing crunches/leg lifts on a regular basis. Thanks to my extremely high metabolism rates, the effort is paying off! Woo!

Next, it’s Squash tomorrow morning! And I’m going for the StanChart 10km again this year. No 21km yet — my exercise rate (wait, is there even one) simply disallows anything more than 10km lah.

  • The day before, a colleague of mine slipped, fell and fractured his shoulder. I feel sorry for him; he isn’t that young anymore so injuries are more serious a matter. Nonetheless, I thank God that I’ve never suffered a major injury before.

Speaking of shoulder, I almost pulled my shoulder muscle this afternoon while being in an awkward position trying to pick up a piece of tissue I dropped. It still feels slightly sore now.

(I told you this is a mupdate. Mundane update, geddit.)

  • Today has to be the most draining working day in quite a while. I feel accomplished from juggling a press release, tagline generating and proof-reading; albeit mentally exhausted. And I haven’t really finished all my work yet. Pity that I only got into rhythm on Friday. Looming deadlines kick butt, literally. Well, the weekend will probably break it. But I shall not complain because the others have to go back and work over the weekend for a pitch…

  • Worship band practice tonight was great. Not that it usually isn’t — I just haven’t played drums for service or with the all-youth band for a while (did back-up singing). The chemistry was there, and I could worship even though it was practice. Praise God. +) I noticed Josh the Prodigy Boss’ piano playing has gone up a notch from the last time. It’s scary. Keep going at it!

  • Finally, I just realised some tricks about bass guitar playing. Fine, they aren’t really tricks but… I guess this is what you get when you learn chord fingerings of guitar playing without really knowing the string/fret basics. Gah.

Aiya.

I’ve just thought of an analogy that most aptly describes my concentration abilities. It’s called multi-port fuel injection.

It comes in spurts of petrol that goes into pistons at different rates… To cut a long story short, my concentration comes at different bursts. But each time it comes, I’ll sit on something and I can’t take my eyes off it, until the next distraction comes. Then I’ll sit on it and I can’t take my eyes off it, until the next distraction comes. Then I’ll sit on it and I can’t take my eyes off it, until the next distraction comes. Then I’ll sit on it and I can’t take my eyes off it, until the next distraction comes…

This blog is in danger…

Of becoming those inane, all-I-do-are-quizzes blogs.

But have no fear! This won’t last for long! Bwahaha.

By the way, Indus Gendi (my band’s other band sans me plus Esther and Arif, their poly mates) plays outside CINELEISURE for Tapestry ‘07 on Saturday (6.30pm) and Sunday (9pm)!

It’s been 2 years since I did the Myer-Briggs thing. I know that I previously, I was almost 50-50 on S/N and T/F — this hasn’t really changed, save the fact that both my N and J-percentage has gone up. Which, upon reflection, is rather true. Hmm.

Hallow Spoilers!

Spoiler warning!

Of course, I won’t be so mean as to kill your joy just 2 days after the HP book launch.

(I finished the book on Sunday in 5 hours.)

I’ll just lay some details out here. And all you have to do is to highlight the following with a click and drag of your mouse. Or simply pressing ctrl+A. =)

Go for it. You know you wanna…

  • Who dies?
  • Hedwig, Mad-eye, Dobby, Pettigrew, Snape, Fred Weasley, Lupin, Tonks, Voldemort. Many other Hogwarts students/Death Eaters died in battle too (55 in all, I’m told), but I don’t think you’d really care.

Oh yes, Dumbledore IS dead. He was going to die anyway… Hmm. And he wasn’t that saintly throughout his life, like everyone thought he was. Not when he was still young and rash, that is.

  • Who’s the traitor?
  • Snape. But then again, not him. He betrayed them on purpose – he’s been on Dumbledore’s side all along. Really, all the traitors are basically the Death Eaters that we already know of. Or those who had been under the Cruciatus curse.

  • What are the Deathly Hallows?
  • They are 3 precious items that most believe exist only in fairy tales. But in reality, they do. Harry already has two of them; one which he uses regularly and one that was later given to him. The third is one that Voldemort desires – he thinks that it will enable him to defeat Harry – and eventually obtains.

These 3 precious items combined will enable its owner to control Death, and it has ensued in many bloody wizard fights… And yes. Someone did possess all 3 of them at one point of time, and it is in recent times.

What were the 6 (or is it just 6) Horcruxes? The first was the diary of Tom Riddle, destroyed in the Chamber of Secrets. Dumbledore had destroyed one other, the ring of Marvolo Gaunt. Then it was the Slytherin locket which was found with a bit of help from a creature (hint hint). They also learnt that they can only destroy Horcruxes with the rarest and most lethal weapons (i.e. Gryffindor Sword and Basilisk fangs), which a mysterious doe helped them find…

So the other Horcruxes were 2 somethings that belonged to 2 Hogwarts houses; and Voldemort’s pet snake, Nagini.

But wait, there’s more! Since V had put a bit of himself into Harry in the beginning, Harry himself is a 7th Horcrux…

  • Who gets married to whom?
  • Tonks and Lupin (gave birth to one son — Ted Tonks – before they got killed, and named Harry as godfather). Fleur and Bill, but their wedding was gatecrashed by the Death Eaters. Harry and Ginny. Ron and Hermione.

    1. Okay fine (I’m getting tired). What happened in the end?
V ‘kills’ his soul in HP the first time, then HP showdowns with V. V gets killed because of some big complicated thing that has a bit to do with the Hallows.

19 years later, Harry and Ginny have 3 kids (2 boys, 1 girl); Ron and Hermione have 2 (1 boy, 1 girl).

Some thoughts on a Thursday morn.

I feel sad whenever I see people accepting or rejecting various issues without searching its true worth. This led me to ponder why, and I would say that I’m sometimes guilty of it too.

From the complexity of religion to ’simply’ making choices between what’s right and wrong: How often do we seriously get down to understanding what we do and why we do it, before we approve or reject their notions?

Is it because we’re so comfortable in resting in our own scheme and oft-shallow understanding of things, rather choosing the easier option of doing what our heart feels wont to?

Admittedly, the pursuit of knowledge is a tiring and relentless process. So, in this case, ignorance is bliss.

But is it our laziness that constitutes this ignorance, resulting in another travesty of blind leading the blind?

Should we challenge anything and everything around us till we get a firm answer? Do you see a point in it? Or would you rather rest on your laurels, even if they’re really not laurels?

    Crazy weekend: Youth Seminar Reflections.

I must find time for rest! My schedules are crazy, especially the weekends. I’ve been out of the house on an average of 15 hours a day — and it’s usually from 8am onwards. Too crazy. I went for a Youth Leader’s training seminar at Toa Payoh Methodist Church on Saturday morning. It wasn’t too bad even though half the time I was fidgeting, trying to stay awake. Tired lah.

(The American speakers with us coaches.)

The topic of tailoring worship to the younger generation stirred me quite a bit. Being brought up in a Presbyterian church, I’m quite a traditional worshipper at heart. I struggled a little with this rather ‘radical’ message but after much deliberation, I came to terms with the fact that my generation may require a different style of worship to properly engage in one. Not that our worships have to become like that of charismatic churches; I see that it boils down to carefully balancing doctrinally-sound worship with one that our youths can identify with.

However, I thought that this particular speaker was too scanty on the topic. There was too much to talk about and too little time, and I felt uncomfortable with the lack of contextual support. Perhaps I was being thick, but he seemed to be a bit incoherent at times.

On the whole, I found the talks enriching and useful, especially the part on encouraging theological reflection. What distinguishes church fellowship from social gatherings is exemplified by our bond in Christ. And in order to up this crucial factor, the Word as the foundation of fellowship is essential.

But wait, there’s more! (ha ha.) Ahem.

We shouldn’t discount adults from the Youth Ministry. They have a wealth of experience that we can learn and tap from. I’m glad that we’ve done something along these lines — we’ve started a ‘I pray for Youth’ project, where adults each ‘adopt’ two youths (not just those in the Youth Fellowship [YF], but all the youths in Glory) to pray for. All the girls have been ‘adopted’, and we’re encouraging more men to step forward to ‘adopt’ the remaining boys. Baby steps, but it’s a start. And it’s been heartening to see some of the adults take one step further to actually write encouragement cards to them!

After this seminar, some discussions among the YF coaches are definitely in order. I’m supposed to write a report about it anyway, so this will be it! Heh. +)

NB: This report is from pure memory and what spoke to me most during the seminar.

    Common Language.

My ex-drum teacher of 2 months, Wen, is back in town for summer break. He’s definitely one of the best young drummers around (and I’m not saying that just because) and he’s set up a band that includes 2 prodigies — Alex Wintz on guitar and Katie Thiroux on upright bass and vocals, shipped here from the US. Both of them have won awards from DOWNBEAT magazine at the age of 18! They will be joining Wen on drums and his long time musical companion and friend, Chok Kerong on piano and Rhodes.

If you’re interested in Jazz and Fusion numbers or watching kickass musicians per se, this is something you definitely cannot miss!

    Optimus..Beni.

(Ignore the un-transformer-like pose, please. I was just propping the helmet up because it was too heavy and uh… Being random.)

One of the guys in the other company (we share the office premises with another company, under the same director) is a Transformers nut. He has all the figures that appeared in the movie, and more. The Optimus Prime helmet that I’m wearing CAN EMIT OPTIMUS’ VOICE how cool is that! I loved the movie. I felt so emotional whenever they transformed. 2 eprops to Computer graphics!

I need to stop snacking on Tao Kae Noi Seaweed and mint chocolate biscuits. Not when I haven’t been exercising regularly! I FEEL FLAB COMING.
